Are you full of anticipation and looking forward to the birth of your child? At St. Joseph-Stift, we support you in making this wonderful event a truly special experience.
As a Baby-Friendly Maternity Clinic (WHO/UNICEF Initiative, certified since 2011, learn more here), we are committed to fostering a strong parent-child bond and promoting breastfeeding as the optimal, natural form of nutrition. We offer modern medical care combined with a sense of security and individual attention. Our aim is to ensure a natural progression of pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
Optimal care for newborns is provided by our specialized staff in close cooperation with the Pediatric Clinic of the University Hospital – even in cases of high-risk or premature births.
There are various ways to reach our maternity clinic.
In cases of urgency, we offer the use of our stork parking spot. It is located on Georg-Nerlich-Straße 4, directly in front of the Franziska-Werner-Haus. From there, the delivery room can be accessed quickly and safely via the emergency entrance, available 24/7. The parking spaces are marked with a stork on the classic blue parking sign.
Our visiting hours are daily from 15.30 to 19.00. Please report directly to Ward S2.
In line with our baby-friendly concept, we kindly ask that the number of visitors is limited to two visitors per day. Children are excluded from this limit.
Thank you for your understanding!
Thanks to our cooperation with the University Hospital Dresden, excellent pediatric care is always ensured.

- The pediatric examinations U1 and U2 are performed by the pediatricians on the postpartum ward.
- Initial care of the newborn by obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatric nurses, and midwives is always provided.

Yes, please register by phone about six weeks before your due date. We will then arrange an appointment to get to know each other.
During this appointment, we can take your medical history, answer your questions, and discuss your wishes.
During a natural birth, you will be attended by our midwives and an obstetrician. You are welcome to bring a familiar companion to support you during the birth.
Labor can begin with contractions or water breaking. If you plan to give birth at our clinic, we recommend coming to the delivery room when you have regular contractions and/or your water breaks. You are, of course, welcome to come to the clinic at any time if you have concerns or notice anything unusual. We are here for you 24/7.
You can find our two stork parking spaces on Georg-Nerlich-Straße 4, directly in front of the Franziska-Werner-Haus. From there, the delivery room can be accessed quickly and safely via the emergency entrance, available 24/7.
It is possible, and our wish, for your partner to be by your side during a cesarean section. The first skin-to-skin contact (bonding) with your baby takes place in the operating room, allowing you to share the first moments with your child together.
After a natural birth, you can stay on our postpartum ward for three days (after a cesarean section, about four days) and be cared for by our obstetric team. We will assist you in caring for your child, especially with breastfeeding and diapering, offering individualized advice based on your needs and preferences.
An outpatient birth is also possible, allowing you to return home immediately afterward.
